finish it

Sorry for the long time between posts. Been one hell of a couple of weeks. It started with the passing of Mumu, my gramma on my dad’s side. She was 95 but her death was still a surprise for some reason. A part of me (the kid part) always thought she’d be around. The funeral was beautiful, simple. It focused on her ability to make homes for people, which she did literally and figuratively. I miss her and wish she’d been able to meet Jack. My sis already used this picture as a tribute to her, but I was so moved by it that I wanted to share it too.

russ breaks the news

Poor Wolf. He has a lot of hard work coming up. Facing your demons is hard. It’s hard work. Taking a look in the mirror and realizing the person you’ve become is George Bush is hard. It’s hard work. Really hard. Hard work… (props to anyone who remembers the 2004 debates! Remembering is hard. It’s hard work.)

Check out Robin’s photo of New York. It sums up why I love the city. Textures, styles, drama…

wolf is bush

Hi all. Not much to say today, except thanks for reading! Traffic to the site is growing really fast so if you’re telling your friends about the strip, I owe you one or two!

Long weekend! I tried something new for the holiday this time around. I’m sick and tired of coming out the other end of my time off with a sense of failure. I never feel like I had enough fun, or got enough writing done. I usually end my vacations with the same books by my bed, with the same bookmarks on the same page. Lists of spring cleaning ideas, museum trips, tweaks and tips go undone. It turns out the trick was scheduling. Here’s my day in a neat little package — web browsing in the morning, then writing, then lunch, then fun, then fun, then fun, then sleep. I could get used to this.

pondering guys

I’m a day late due to copious amounts of extracurricular activities over the weekend. Visiting cousins, stunningly talented rockin’ chicks belting out a concert for the kids, Central Park Zoo, FAO Schwartz, question-and-answer session with Ricky Gervais (the creator of The Office)…All packed into two days.

I’ll admit I’m not a high-energy guy. In fact, I take the easy way out almost every time. A postcard is just as good as a trip there, without the plane ride. I’ll always take the escalator over the stairs. I believe in God. But sometimes it hits me. Hey, you’ll be dead before you know it and will people remember you for your work or your play? Then I answer, probably my work. Then I have to start the pep talk all over again to get me out of the house. Still, I’m possessed once in a hot pink moon to get out and go, and when I do — oh, when I do — well, I basically ache all over and worry about all the work I have to do.

Wolf and Nathan

If you enjoy sci-fi at all, you’ll know the old cliche about “tricking” a computer. How can you defeat a machine gone bad? First, you figure out its mission and you find the missing logic. Then, you present it with that missing logic in some clever way. Finally, you watch the computer sizzle and spit and get all pissed off. Victory! Of course, this is just a metaphor for what we all go through every day. We confront stupidity, we find the missing wisdom, we present the truth in some clever way and we watch the gentleman’s head explode. Of course, that last part never happens. As our friends in The Block are finding with Wolf…

Nekked pontificates

So after two years of successfully staying out of gyms I’ve come to realize the only winner in this little tug of war is LL Bean. How many pairs of slacks in ever-increasing waistlines can I buy? I’m running out of numbers! So later today I’m heading to the local gym, pretending I’m “interested” in signing up (when they’ll take one look at me and know full well I intend to pull out the pocketbook) and hoping to get a free coffee mug out of the whole transaction. I’ll start with once a week and move up from there. I would have preferred to get in shape with the Nintendo Wii, but the damn things are still sold out everywhere. Frackin’ conspiracy, I tell you…

Wolf isn't listening

Wow. What a day. It’s so beautiful, it’s irritating. You know what I’m talking about. First true weekend of Spring! Clothes shed for sunscreen, windows open, fresh air, renewed energy, three hundred twenty two billion seven hundred million five hundred fifty five thousand two hundred thirty seven people in the &*%%#@ coffee shop for a %*&@! cup of ice coffee. Ah, Spring…

This strip is dedicated to our friend Robin Berla who’s in the ICU. Get better soon Robin!

Cats always put me in a good mood, unless it’s Spring and they’re horny and yelling at me for something I can’t give them. With that in mind…

wolf with the nekked hair

Sorry for the blackout there. Net problems mixed with two product launches at work in one week, and a weekend at the folks’ place enjoying fine food and free friends put a serious crimp in the schedule.

We have a nor-easter pounding away at the windows today. Nor-easter is a standard term for “a big honkin storm that makes the subways all confused”. I’m enjoying this rainy day much more than the last one, thanks to a delightful Jack, recovering from yet another flu. Last I looked he was putting his hat on and grinning cheek to cheek.

Pic attached for baby freaks. You know who you are…

jealous?

I think I’m liking this new format, though it’s hard to tell what I like today. It’s one of those overcast afternoons that doesn’t inspire one to read or snuggle up with a movie. Rather, it’s the kind of overcast day that takes the sheen off of a new car. Dour ilk and sour milk and all that. Maybe it’s the work week ahead (or the one behind) but I won’t be whistling my way to positivity best I can tell. Maybe a hot chocolate mug and some Jack-time will make the blues go away. Jack and gloom don’t go well together, after all.
